YOUR CAR HIRE MALTA
Cards, deposits and rental information
Understand payment, security and your quote before choosing a car. A card that can pay for a rental may not satisfy its collection or security requirements.
Start with the agreement for your car
Availability and reservations use the CityGo Rentals booking service. Read its current terms alongside the conditions displayed for your selected vehicle and rate. This page explains the checks and calculations; it does not replace your agreement or promise eligibility for every offer.

Cards: payment versus collection
| Question | What matters |
|---|---|
| Paying for the rental | The payment method used to book and the card needed at collection can have different requirements. Paying successfully does not itself establish that you can collect. |
| Security hold | A preauthorisation reserves available funds or credit. It is separate from the rental price. Check the accepted card, required name and amount for your vehicle. |
| Debit or Revolut | Check the actual card type and the selected waiver/security arrangement. “Revolut” describes a provider, not one universal card or rental condition. |
| Physical or virtual card | A phone wallet or online card number does not establish that a physical-card or PIN requirement is met. Keep the required original card available for collection. |
| Cardholder and driver | Check the agreement’s name-matching rules. The person paying online, cardholder and main driver may have different responsibilities. |
The linked CityGo terms distinguish debit-card payment from security, and describe debit/Revolut use with a specified waiver. They also state driver/cardholder and PIN requirements. Waiver names differ between passages. Confirm the exact arrangement for your selected offer before relying on an exception.
Rental price, security and damage excess
The rental price is the charge for hiring the car, plus agreed extras and fees. A security hold temporarily restricts money or credit; it is not automatically an additional hire charge. A damage excess is the responsibility described by the cover terms if a covered event occurs. The hold and the excess need not be equal, and optional cover can have exclusions.
Illustration: separate the amounts
Suppose a quote shows €180 rental, €30 other mandatory charges, €20 chosen extras and a €1,000 security hold. The entered charges total €230. The separate hold is €1,000, so you would plan for €1,230 of combined charges and available security. These invented figures demonstrate arithmetic only; they are not a quote, deposit policy or guarantee of release timing.
Compare your own quoted amounts
Use totals from one complete offer. Do not count fees twice if they are already included in the rental amount. The calculation does not determine billable days or estimate unknown charges.
Calculated locally. No worksheet amounts are sent or saved.
Keep these conditions with your quote
- Driver and licence: record accepted originals, licence experience, age eligibility and any additional-driver conditions.
- Fuel: record the supplied level, fuel charge and required return level. Do not assume unused fuel is refundable.
- Location and time: include the airport or other collection fee, public-holiday and out-of-hours conditions where applicable.
- Changes and cancellations: save the deadline, method and confirmation of any requested change. A request is not an agreed amendment.
- Cover: keep the excess, exclusions and incident-reporting instructions with any selected waiver.
The linked terms contain different late-arrival deadlines in separate passages. If your arrival may be late, obtain a specific confirmed collection arrangement rather than choosing a deadline from this guide. Office opening hours alone do not change a reservation’s agreed timing.
